Altskeith Country House Wedding, Loch Ard, Scotland.

Altkeith-country-house-loch-ard

Helen and Jameson got married at Altskeith Country House on Loch Ard in Scotland. It was a bit of a trek for their friends and family some coming from as far as Liverpool, Manchester, down south and even Canada!!! I overheard that getting off a 12 hour flight and then navigating Scottish country roads in a hire car, in the dark, on the other side of the road is quite something! But it was most definitely worth it!

Altskeith Country House

Altskeith Country House is the perfect venue for couples that love nature, the venue sits on the edge of Loch Ard, overlooking the Loch and Ben Lomond and sitting right in the centre of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park you are surrounded by forests, nature and beautiful scenery, with very little light pollution about the starry skies at night are a dream.

At Altskeith Country House there are plenty of different options for an outdoor ceremony, you can get married on the lawns alongside the Loch, by the waterfall, on the beach of Loch Ard, under the beech tree over the small bridge in the trees. If it rains you can have your ceremony in the function room over looking the Loch and Ben Lomond, the glass wall in the function room is removable so if you want to be able to breath is some of that sweet rainy air while you are getting married you can while staying dry as well something alive relatively dry. It’s all to play for.

Getting Ready

Helen and Jameson both got ready onsite at Altskeith Country house. Jameson took the cottage on the outside of the building with his groomsmen while Helen stayed in the main building with her friends and family. Helen’s sister Harriet who is a mega talented make up artist did Helen’s hair and make up for her while the girls enjoyed some champagne together and watched for wedding guests arriving at the venue from the loft room windows.

The Ceremony

Helen and Jameson chose to get married under The Beech Tree on the lawn as that is where Jameson proposed! I know just when you thought it couldn’t get more prefect! Well it has, so get over it!

As Helen and Jameson were already technically married they had a humanist hand fasting ceremony, with plenty of heart felt readings from Helen and Jamesons friends and family and Helen walked down the aisle to music Jameson had composed for her on their anniversary. No you stop it!

Confetti, Drinks and Magic

After being attacked with some dried petal confetti by their friends and family they chilled out for a bit and presented their wedding guests with a boat load of booze and a magician.

Then after some family photos and a few quick portraits hiding out of Scotlands blazing sun. Yes really! We headed in for speeches, some cracker pulling, plenty of giggles and a few tears. Oh and some amazing food from the kitchen at Altskeith Country House obviously!

Cake Cutting and Speeches

After our little expedition we headed back for Helen and Jameson to pretend to cut the massive Cake (Helen and Jameson loved the cake design so much they thought it would be a crime to eat it, so they got a fake one made so they could keep it forever!) then it was straight into the main room for dinner and speeches.

Loch Ard

Once everyone was fed we popped back out for a little walk on the beach of Loch Ard and a boat trip. I bloody love boats as any of my friends will tell you, it’s hard to walk past a boat or a boat trip with out me forcing a load of people on it and shouting that they all better stop crying and start enjoying themselves, but that is another story.

On the boat Jameson got the rowing job while Helen has the job of alternating between pulling silly faces and looking pretty which she did like a pro… As you can see. Even the midges stayed at home, or all hung out outside a night club or something.

The Party

Then it was party time!!! Helen and Jameson opened the dance floor with their first dance and then passed over the reigns to the Scottish Ceilidh Band who had everyone wizzing around the room like smiling Tazmanian devils, high of life and fine wine.

As the night drew in the fire pits came out and guests feasted on toasted marsh mellows and pizza before greeting Helen and Jameson with sparklers before they left the building.

A beautiful wedding for some beautiful humans. Thanks for having me along for the ride Helen and Jameson!

Shotton Grange Wedding Photographer

Shotton Grange

Shotton Grange is a Georgian Manor and coaching house turned wedding venue. It’s a beautiful big house sitting in six acres of land with woodland, lawns and a big walled garden with lots of beautiful flowers for guests to hang out in on sunny days.

Alex and Kris chose Shotton Grange because they wanted a fun informal wedding celebration with their closest friends and family, they wanted it to be colourful and fun just like them. Determined to do their own thing Alex opted out of wearing traditional wedding dress and treated herself to s snazzy outfit from ASOS instead while Kris wore a kilt and they both looked bloody smashing.

The Ceremony

Alex was walked down the aisle by her father and then her and Kris had their wedding ceremony performed by a humanist celebrant in front of their closest friends and family. There was lots of giggles and tears during the hand fasting ceremony and generally Alex and Kris looking totally besotted with each other all in the beautiful setting of Shotton Grange’s light and airy ceremony room. After the ceremony Alex and Kris were accosted by their weddings guests with a tray load of natural petal confetti and also greeted by a few amorous wasps.

Walled Garden and Portraits

After the confetti throwing the wedding party made their merry way into Shotton Grange’s beautiful walled garden, where they were greeted with fruity drinks and sunshine. Alex and Kris opted out of formal group shots and just had a few photographs of themselves together. Leaving more time for them to enjoy the day with guests and giving me more time to grab those lovely natural reportage shots. Winner, winner! Veggie roast dinner!

The Wedding Breakfast and Speeches

While Alex, Kris and their wedding guests were relaxing in the garden, the hard working team at Shotton Grange were busy transforming the ceremony room into a beautiful, colourful dining area for the dinner and speeches.

Alex is an illustrator and graphic designer and chose the colour pallet for the room, keeping the centre pieces simple and effective. Alex chose yellow, blue and white bottles with pink candles and had grapefruit and oranges chopped in half showing there wonderful natural patterns and colours. Alex also designed the awesome ribbon table planner you can see in the photo below that really brought the room together. Check out Alex’s bloody awesome illustrations here: http://www.alexdavy.net/

Speeches were a fun filled affair with hilarious and heartfelt speeches from Kris’s Grandad Kevin, Alex’s Mum Sheila, Kris’s Best Man Jay, Alex’s maid of honour Megs and of course the man of the moment Kris.

Cake cutting and First Dance

After the speeches and a bit a bit of milling about with guest outside Alex and Kris cut their cake, which was a fruity little number in akin with day and then went into their first dance to kick off the party! A belting party it was. Thanks for having me Alex and Kris. xx

Constellations Liverpool

Jenn and Dan chose Constellations Liverpool as their wedding venue as they wanted something that was more of a party than a traditional wedding. Constellations seems like the perfect mix of a venue with its own character and personality, yet still leaving parts of it a blank canvas to get your creative groove on.

Constellations is an old observatory/warehouse and recycling yard right in the heart of Liverpools vibrant Baltic Quarter, now used as an event space, the building is now used for everything from Art exhibitions, to all night music events and of course uber cool urban weddings!

With a huge 4500 square foot garden there’s loads of space for guests to mill around and enjoy the sunshine and a massive modern art fire pit to gather around when the sun goes down but guests are’t quite ready to retreat inside.

Jenn and Dan’s guests were greeted on arrival with Mojito cocktails, beautifully designed order of service and a Lamb-Banana guest book!

The Ceremony

The ceremony was lovely and relaxed Jenn and Dan choose to enter together, some guests took chairs while others stood or even sat on the floor as Dan’s Uncle officiated the ceremony. Behind them hung a patch work quilt that Dan’s mum had made them as a wedding gift. At the end of the ceremony Jenn and Dan’s friends and Family cheered and popped confetti canons, covering everyone in confetti.

Couples Portraits

When it came time to grab some couples portraits we were in a great spot to take advantage of some of Liverpool’s awesome street art. A quick dash down the street the the local skate park had us finding loads of interesting walls and nooks and crannies to garb some pics in, being greeted by well wishers on the way.

Hanging out in the garden

Back at Constellations the guests were making the most out of garden, playing Jenga, having a few games of pool and when the night drew in singing a few songs around the massive camp fire.

When Dan’s band came on everyone was up for a dance and started showing their support and throwing some shapes on the outdoor dance floor.

The Party!

Once the bands had finished the party was not over. Jenn and Dan knew their friends and family would want to party into the night and booked a DJ to take over in the space inside Constellations. Guests began to trickle in one by one being pulled away from the lovely chilled vibes of the camp fire songs by the pulsing base lines coming from inside and it wasn’t long until there were some legendary shapes being thrown on the dance floor.

A Rainy Wedding Day at Spring Cottage, Rivington

Karis and Luke got married on a lovely English summers day at Spring Cottage in Rivington and by a lovely English Summers day I mean it was absolutely pelting down all day. This didn’t damped (excuse the pun) Karis and Luke’s spirits and I really admired their gusto in sticking to their plan to have their ceremony outdoors. The weather had different ideas though and as it the rain got heavier and heavier at the last minute the plan for the day changed and the guests retreated back to the bar while the lovely staff at Spring Cottage rearranged the marquee and chairs for an indoor ceremony.

Impromtu Indoor Ceremony at Spring Cottage

Karis was walked into the impromptu ceremony room by her father and had help from a bridesmaid and wedding guest holding brollies and her dress so Karis didn’t get soggy. Inside the marquee Karis and Luke had a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony performed by and old family friend. On the way out Karis was greeted by wedding guests with brollies and confetti.

Couples Portraits

When it came to portrait time we knew with Karis and Luke’s love of nature we had to do the portraits outside, so we braved the elements with brollies and bridesmaids on hand to keep Karis and Luke relatively dry. We then used natures shelter of the trees in the gorgeous forest surrounding Spring cottage to do the rest and threw a couple of smoke bombs in for good measure!

The Party

As the evening drew in, everyone was up for a good party! Karis and Luke had their first dance together as husband and wife and the dance floor was jam packed while the couples awesome wedding band King Rose took to the stage and got everyone throwing some shapes!

As the evening drew in, the rain eased off and the fire pits surrounding Spring Cottage were lit giving the guests the chance to toast marsh mellows and cosy up by the fire. It was quite an adventure of a day!

The Civil Ceremony Room

Jess and Mark had their teary and very emotional ceremony in the barns moody, orange bulb and fairy light lit ceremony room in front of 30 of their friends and family. Making it a beautifully intimate ceremony.

Photos and Games

Once the ceremony was finished Jess and Mark headed out into the beautiful lavender and bee filled gardens for some photos and lawn games with their friends and family.

Couples Portraits

After some milling around, eating some delicious wedding food and escaping the odd bee and wasp attack we grabbed a few portraits around Owen House Barn’s beautiful grounds. Dropping by on a massive row of hay stacks and talking a walk in Owen House’s Weddings Barns beautifully manicured gardens before heading back for the speeches and wedding breakfast.

Speeches

Mark gave a wonderfully emotional speech that had everyone moved to tears, when Jess and Mark had a little kiss at the end the entire room stood up and game them a standing ovation.
